MAIN STREET MOSAICS
Rotherham Council commissioned twentyfiveandahalf to decorate a 100m hoarding around the construction site of a new council building, which used to be an important metalworking factory for the town.
It needed to talk about the future but not forget the site’s history past.
It also needed to clearly meet the council's objectives by talking about 18 of the services that would be offered from their new hub.
How did I decide to tackle it? With 45000 steel washers of course... after all, it was a metalworks! They were used to create eighteen huge mosaic panels embedded in a tough epoxy resin, which were then installed down the length of the hoarding on this busy thoroughfare.
Working in public spaces and in local schools, we created a series of animations from washers that directly referenced the hoarding design. These were displayed on council owned screens around the town, and referred viewers to the website, where they could find out all about the new development.
The work was well received and twentyfiveandahalf were invited to talk about the programme of works at the official launch of the site.
